Once, the coastal area of Sri Lanka had been captured
and governed by the Dutch people. It was between (1656-1796). This building has
had been constructed during this period. Yet; this construction nearly 250
years old and mainly lime stones and clay had been used as major materials. In
addition to that, façade of the house has had been decorated by wooden frames
and fences.
Recently,
by end of 2004 it was hit by Tsunami and part of the building was damaged. Roof
has had been thatched by semi circled clay tiles. Yet; I found four numbers of
penetrable glass top covering curved shape roof glass tiles, which had been
imported from Belgium over a century ago. In fact, value of those glass tiles are
in calculable and not to be seen any longer.
Back
yard directly opens to the endless Indian Ocean. Yet; with the falling of sun rise,
sea breeze would be activated. In fact, you may not need any air condition to
keep your home cool. Edge of the coastal area being, covered with Coconut
plantation. Particularly, on the days of Moon light, you will have ample
opportunities to enjoy in the isolated sea beach.
